Telega Watch

Privacy & disclaimer

What Telega Watch does with your account, what it sends, and what the author is and isn't responsible for.

What Telega Watch is

Telega Watch is an unofficial app that plays the videos from your own Telegram account on an Android TV. It is built on TDLib, Telegram’s official open-source library for third-party apps, and runs entirely on the TV: there is no Telega Watch server between your TV and Telegram.

Not affiliated with Telegram

The author of Telega Watch is not affiliated with Telegram and does not represent it. The Telegram name and logo belong to their owners and are used only to make clear which service the app works with.

Read-only

The app only reads your account. It never sends messages, never joins or leaves chats, and never forwards, edits or deletes anything. It only sees the chats your account can already see, and lists only the ones you choose.

Your account and data

  • Your login session, the list of movies and the downloaded videos are stored only on the TV.
  • Log out in Settings ends the session and deletes the account’s data and every download from the TV. You can also end the session from your phone under Telegram → Settings → Devices.
  • The optional app lock stores only a salted hash of your code, never the code itself.

The heartbeat

A few times a day, and when the app starts, Telega Watch sends a small heartbeat to the author’s own statistics server, so the author can see how many TVs run which version. It contains:

  • a random ID made when the app was installed (not tied to the TV’s hardware);
  • the app’s ID, version name and version number;
  • the Android version, the TV’s maker and model, the installer, the language setting and the processor type;
  • the Telegram account it is logged in to: your @username (or your numeric user ID if you have no username) and your display name.

It never includes your phone number, your chats, or anything about what you watch. After you log out, no account is sent. If the server can’t be reached, nothing is retried and the app works as normal.

Content

The app stores and distributes no content. Everything you watch comes from your own Telegram account, from the chats and channels you choose. Their owners and Telegram are responsible for that content; you are responsible for making sure that what you watch is legal where you live.

“As is”

Telega Watch is free and provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or freedom from bugs. It depends on Telegram and may stop working at any time. The author is not liable for any direct or indirect damage arising from installing or using the app.
